Hi all, been offline for awhile, feeling quite annoyed about the swine flu panic, boot camp promotion and endless economic analysis due to 'recession'. Capitalism has failed and now we are spending trillionsto save it................hello!!!!!

Well I didn't vote for national but one thing that was promised per election was a large investment in the communications infrastructure to ensure the roll out of fibre optic, cable, or whatever was sped up throuhgout NZ. This can about through the recognition that NZ needs good internet speed to be an international competitor. The problem now is that Act are thier partner and they want to curb government spending so, lets hope that this isn;t the spending they want to curb though.

Still on the hating dial up buzz. Telstra (+ others) can't provide PDQ where I live, but Telecom can. Telstra has no tolls in Franklin, Telecom does, you don't need to have a phone with Telecom to get broadband, but it costs more for the privelage if you don't! So the question for today - Is fast internet worth another $20 a month? Normally - no contest, of course it is worth paying $5 a week to be able to use the internet somewhat normally. I really hate dial up. I know broadband in nz may not be the fastest in the world but.....
Excellent access to broadband or fibre optic should be a priority for a small island in the middle of the Pacific.
I've been waiting over a month for Telstra to connect my PDQ, they say it is connected but still no dsl light on the modem.
Hence I'm stuck using dial up for now. Dial up makes you want to get off the computer, to disconnect.
